August : Frogham Fair – Bank Holiday weekend, Saturday afternoon, 27th August 2011: Our Stand presented: Electrifying transport (Nissan Leaf car; electric motorbike; and a GIANT battery power-assisted cycle): How much energy can you pedal ? Ride the Human Powermeter Cycle to find who can produce the most electricity in one minute and contribute towards.. Sending Solar Ovens to third world countries: Become a card holder of Brand New Forest.: Colouring for youngsters: Information display; lots of expertise on hand – just ask!
July: Open meeting : July 7th. Climate Change in the New Forest : Claire Gingell, (Head of Sustainability at the NFNPA) spoke about the work of the NFNPA “Promoting Sustainability in the New Forest”, and Alan Holland presented a Forestry Commission video entitled “The World is Hot enough” (with sections covering; The Problem; Trees as a Solution; Sustainable Woodland Management; Wood as a Fuel; Use more wood; Planning for the Future; a Pesky Problem; and some Conclusions)
May: The open meeting of the HDCCF held on May 12th was on Bees and Bee Keeping. There was a slide show presentation by some of Blissford’s bee-keepers about the many pleasures, and occasional pains, of keeping bees. There was an opportunity to ask questions, look at the equipment needed, talk about costs and sample some local honey. A copy of the presentation can be accessed here. Warning. February
Zero Energy Living – Dan and Jane Fish live virtually ‘carbon neutral’. Their New Forest house is heavily insulated. They use the sun’s energy to heat their water, generate their electricity and charge the electric G-Wizz car they drive. In the winter they supplement the sun’s energy with a wood-fuel stove burning surplus timber.

New Forest Transition – a helpful and informative presentation by Richard Barnett, Hub Chairman of New Forest Transition, and our first AGM.

January
Al Gore’s award-winning film “An Inconvenient Truth” was shown at the village hall, leading to the suggestion that a local organisation be formed.
March
The Hyde District Climate Change Forum began with a public Open Meeting entitled: “What is your Carbon Footprint? How do you calculate it and why does it matter?” Professor John Shepherd FRS produced a simplified carbon footprint calculator sheet, which was distributed around the district ahead of the meeting. The meeting also showed the DVD of George Monbiot’s 2006 Schumacher Lecture. About 50 people attended.

Terena Plowright presented The Greening Campaign, an inspiring evening on what to do and how to involve the community and local organisations including the School, Women’s Institute, Churches, Brownies, etc, website www.greening-campaign.co.uk

Wendy Graham of the Energy Advice Centre spoke on Grants available for energy-saving and home insulation, www. energysavingtrust.org.uk, and our road map/ flowchart gives details of loft and cavity wall insulation, help for over 70s and those on benefit, as well as LCBP (low carbon building programme) www.lowcarbon buildings.org.uk e.g. solar hot water, including CIGA (Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency) registered contractors listed in order of distance from Hyde.
26 people attended, and the 2007 Schumacher Lecture DVD by Mark Lynas was shown.
August
Stand at the local Frogham Fair, and Quiz for the youngsters (and not so young!). Illustrated posters were around the two fields, designed to educate in a fun way, as well as give the answers.
September
The vast subject of Waste/Rubbish, ably presented by Roger Sired of New Forest District Council. The recycling Quiz board – updated – will be at most future meetings.
